3D Design Department at NYC’s ICFF

With “Innate Gestures,” 15 of Cranbrook’s graduate students in 3D Design put the human body and the human senses back at the center of the designed world. Working with guest critic Leon Ransmeier and 3D designer-in-residence Scott Klinker, students examine the force of intuition at work as a creator of form, and as a result of felt responses to objects and the environment.

Review: 2005 Cranbrook Graduate Exhibit

The 2005 Cranbrook Academy of Art Graduate Exhibition Show, entitled Made Here, opened on Friday, April 26 at the Cranbrook Art Museum. Despite Michigan’s fickle spring weather (freezing rain and sleet), over 700 hundred people attended to see an exhibition that maintains Cranbrook’s philosophy and emphasizes the Academy’s environment that’s a laboratory of invention, failure, rethinking, and reinvention. The annual exhibition is the culmination of the graduate’s two years of independent study at CAA and his or her path of artistic inquiry writ large.

Essay: Ever Onward

We have this common bond, that we are either in the garden, birthed from the garden, or on our way there. Interested, at least. And by the garden, of course, I refer to this school, Cranbrook, utopia and anti, both. We have either spent our time there, are spending our time there, or gleaming from those who have. It’s a home to the non-rational, nearly invisible in reputation, tiny, precarious. It whispers to us about voodoo knowledge. That our time spent there will embed in…
