(IIT Student work).
This was a remote research project sponsored by Honewell. Students in India conducted research in slums near Mumbai, for the IIT team in Chicago. One of the teams focused on the ‘Balwadis’ (preschools/ coaching centers) in the slums. These preschools were largely dependent on external funding and were managed by volunteers who ran a tailoring business on the side. The student team developed a self sustaining scalable model for the Balwadis. The assumptions made while developing the concept were tested in India, with the help of a local NGO.
